5 tips for avoiding stress at Christmas

Christmas is meant to be the most wonderful time of the year, but the build up to Christmas can be overwhelming and stressful. Here are my 5 top tips for avoiding stress at Christmas, meaning you can enjoy every moment.

Write lists

I love writing lists, and I will find an excuse to write a list about just about anything. It’s my way of keeping organised.

For Christmas lists, I write down each person I am going to by for, leaving a few lines in between each name. For each person, write what you are planning on getting them/what you have already got them.
I have a box that I hide somewhere in my room, full of lots of little Christmas presents, and whenever I buy a new present for someone I put it in there. This way, I can buy different presents throughout November and December, not always with a person in mind, and when it comes to wrapping presents I can decide what I am going to give everyone.

Money

Shopping involves money, and it is up to you how you spend it and how much you spend. I started saving up early for Christmas shopping and it has helped a lot. You don’t want to go to do your Christmas shopping, and then realise you have no money! If, like myself, you don’t have a job, you can earn money in different ways, for example you could do the washing up or the hovering for a week.

When writing your list of presents for people, keep a budget in mind (for example, you could aim to spend between £10 – £15 on each person). This will ensure you don’t go over-board with the spending and you will roughly know how much you will spend on Christmas shopping altogether.

Look for deals and offers

Around Christmas Boots have some amazing deals, such as 3 for 2 on gifted items; their Christmas ranges and sets make perfect gifts, I’ve done some of my Christmas shopping in there! Also, shop around a bit, because I found a Lip Balm set that I wanted to get for a friend that was around £5/6 in most shops but I went into Tesco and got it for £4, half price! I know it is only a few pounds you’re saving, but every little helps!

Shop Early!

Shopping early (November time) will be much easier, and will avoid the last minute panic. There is nothing worse than shopping two weeks before Christmas trying to get everyone’s presents at once! Although I don’t start doing my Christmas shopping until November, if I see something in Boots earlier, for example around October time, that I know a friend would like I would buy it there and then. There is no time like the present! (haha, no pun intended)

Wrap your presents early

I tend to wrap my Christmas presents at least two weeks before the big day. This means that when Christmas comes I can just give everyone their presents without stressing. I like to make use of labels and gift bags so I know which present is going to who!
