Life Lately #4 – a light at the end of the (lockdown) tunnel

In the UK we are currently in the first phase of lifting restrictions. The 12th April was when pub gardens could open as well as non-essential retail and beauty salons. When this date arrived I felt like a kid on Christmas; going back to the pub was the most exciting thing to happen this year!!

I’ve had another unintentional break from blogging so this post is going to be a round-up of what I’ve been up to over the past few weeks (hint: it’s mainly the pub).

2 weeks before April 12th the rules changed so that you could meet 6 people outside. This meant that Easter weekend Jonah and I were able to visit my cousins girlfriends new place in Reading. I hadn’t seen my cousins since last Summer so it was lovely to have a catch up. We had a few drinks, a BBQ and I played ring of fire for the first time. It was a really sunny weekend and we had a walk along the river which was beautiful. I had never been to Reading and it was just so nice to be somewhere other than my hometown. We also saw Banksys fairly recent work which I was fascinated by. Ever since I visited the Banksy museum in Amsterdam I’ve been so intrigued by his work.

The next day Jonah and I drove to London to see my other cousins new house in Wimbledon. My cousins Fiancé, Magda, is Polish, and when we arrived she offered us the Polish breakfast they had made. I love trying food from different cultures, despite me being quite fussy, and this food was delicious. We also met their kitten (so cute!!) and Magda made me a Mojito.

Since 12th April….

I’ve had my hair cut, coloured and blow-dried for the first time since last August and I finally feel like me again. I’m so happy with how it’s turned out.

My mum and I also had our nails done which was really nice! It’s crazy how something so simple can make you feel so much better.

I tried the ‘kinder bueno’ drink from Costa, which if you’re not familiar of, it isn’t an official drink but it’s supposed to taste like kinder bueno. I asked for an iced white mocha with hazelnut syrup and cream on top. I’m not sure it tasted like kinder bueno, but what I do know is it tasted incredible and I think this will now be my go to order. It was delightful (before I spilt it all over myself!).

I went shopping for the first time since December and thoroughly enjoyed it. If you follow me on Instagram you will have seen I went to Primark and bought 5 pairs of sunglasses (only £3 each!!) so I now have a pair for most occasions. Even though I did leave one of the pairs in a pub garden the next day 🙁

I had a date night at a pub in a local village which we’d never visited before. The food was so good!!

Jonah and I also visited Stratford Upon-Avon one evening for a meal. If you’re local to the area, try Cox’s Yard – it’s right by the river and the food was lush.

I went for a coffee in the sun with a few friends at a small local coffee shop – I had a vanilla oat latte. I have a habit of going to big chain companies for coffee such as Costa, and I forget how nice it is to support the small businesses.

I went out for dinner with my mum and brother (I told you this post would contain a lot of pubs). The pub we visited had beautiful scenery, and also had covers and heaters which is always a bonus!!

This time next week restrictions are lifting again and I’m so excited to be returning to even more ‘normality’.

What have you been up to since restrictions have lifted slightly? I hope you’re all safe and well 💕

see you next week!
