December/January Book Haul

Happy new year! For my first post of 2019 (eeek!) I’ve decided to do a book haul. With a-levels back in full swing I know I’m going to be quite (okay, very) stressed in the next few months so I’m going to need a few distractions – books, and lots of them!

Angels – Marian Keyes

Last summer I read one of Marian’s books for the first time, The Break, and absolutely loved it (as I mentioned in this post). The way she created that story was brilliant with such in-depth characters, and it kept me hooked. As soon as I read it I searched for more of her books, and got this one. I’m so excited to read this!

My Thoughts Exactly – Lily Allen

I’ve actually already read this entire book (I think I read it in two sittings, which definitely says something!). I know a lot of people don’t like Lily Allen but I have always loved her and her music, and I started listening to it at a young age. This book is so raw and honest and it really opened my eyes to the reality of the music industry and the side of it most of us don’t see. I think this book is not only inspiring but important for people to read, as Lily reveals so many life lessons. This book reminded me that there are always two sides to the story and to never believe everything you read in the papers.

Lily Collins – Unfiltered

Ever since I watched Love, Rosie (an amazing film, would recommend), Lily Collins has been high up on my list of favourite actresses. When I found out she had written a book I knew I had to get it! I have a feeling it won’t disappoint me.

The Man Who Couldn’t Stop – David Adams

This is ‘The Truth About OCD’ – already I’m glad this book was written and I haven’t even read it. OCD is a mental disorder that is often misunderstood and heavily stigmatised, as people believe it is just about cleanliness. Spoiler alert: it isn’t. It’s so important that stereotypes are broken so mental health is more understood.

Two Little Girls – Kate Medina

This is more of a thriller novel; I’m not sure what to expect but from reading the blurb it seems like it will get very interesting!

Feminists Don’t Wear Pink (And Other Lies)

I’ve started reading this book and I am loving it so far! This book is a combination of pieces from many females sharing their stories of feminism. I used to be uncomfortable admitting that I’m a feminist because as soon as the word is mentioned, some people automatically imagine angry screaming women. It certainly isn’t that, and I think we should all be feminists! We can strive for equal rights in so many ways, it doesn’t have to be through burning bras or protesting in the streets. This book is so inspiring and I hope that young people read it, because I really do think it will make a difference in the way society views feminism.

I am determined to read a little every day, even if it’s just ten minutes in the evening before I go to sleep. I can’t wait to produce more book-related content on this blog in the upcoming year!
Have you bought any books recently?
