Good Vibes, Good life – Vex King (book review)
I’m so excited to be back with a book review after what seems like the longest reading slump. My last book review was back in March, and since then I haven’t read a lot. For most of this year I’ve really struggled to get into books, particularly fiction books. Despite this, I cannot seem to stop buying books, meaning my TBR list is huge. At the moment I am loving non-fiction books.
I started reading Good Vibes, Good Life well over a month ago and I’ve finally finished it. When I saw this in Tesco I couldn’t resist buying it.
Here are my honest thoughts on this book…
First things first, let’s discuss the books appearance. I know we shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover, but it definitely plays a big role. I was drawn to the simple and sleek design of this book; I think the gold writing is beautiful. It’s also a good size, being slightly on the smaller side. It’s certainly an aesthetic cover without being too overpowering.
This book is about self-love, positivity and achieving your goals. It’s based on spirituality, so it includes King speaking about the law of attraction, vibrations, and manifestation. I personally love reading about this, but I understand it’s not for everyone. King uses various studies to back up his points, which as a former Psychology student, I appreciated. He gives practical tips, such as for meditation. Although when reading that part I wasn’t in an environment where I could practice mediation, it was good to know that I could come back to it at a later point.
King also uses his own experiences, which in my opinion, makes it an authentic read. I’m sure this would also make it relatable for a lot of people, as many have faced struggles and hardship in life. It’s always good to hear success stories from someone who started at the bottom and who wasn’t born into wealth.
I found this book a quick and easy read, and good for getting out of a reading slump. Although this is a positive, it also has its downfalls. I found a lot of the topics King covers in this book would be great for beginners, but for me I would’ve liked a bit more depth. A lot of it just touches the surface. I found this book very basic and some parts quite repetitive; I feel like it could’ve been a lot shorter.
For me, this book was easy to start but hard to finish. It didn’t leave me wanting to know more due to the repetitiveness. As I’m sure most people do, I want to read books that I can’t put down. This book didn’t give me that feeling unfortunately. However, saying that, some parts I found inspiring. It also gave me good reminders for self love and positivity, which have stuck with me since finishing the book.
Book rating
Overall, I would give this book 3 stars.
